The Property Council of Australia said the release of the 2024 GRESB benchmark results once again shows Australian property companies are at the forefront of sustainability efforts globally.
Oceania, comprising Australia and New Zealand, secured the top spot in both the standing investments benchmark and the development benchmark.
Property Council Chief Executive Mike Zorbas said the results show the essential role of property leaders in promoting sustainability not just in Australia, but around the globe.
“In 2024, Australian property leaders continue to create world leading sustainable buildings and portfolios. These gold medal results should be a source of national pride,” Mr Zorbas said.
“We congratulate the many Australian companies recognised on the GRESB leaderboards, as well as those companies innovating and demonstrating emerging leadership in this field.
“Building leadership and innovation matters because the built environment accounts for a quarter of Australian emissions.
“We can all be proud that Australian property leaders continue to lead the charge toward achieving our national net zero targets and continue to work with governments to focus on older existing stock,” he said.
GRESB Benchmarks grew to include a record 2,223 real estate participants, including 132 in Australia, with over $10 trillion in real estate assets globally assessed.
Established in 2009, GRESB is the global sustainability benchmark and largest source of ESG data for real estate assets.
