Just for going to work in Brisbane’s CBD, Amanda Watson has become the envy of all her colleagues after winning the major prize in the Property Council’s $40,000 Brisbane VIP competition.
Taking home the major prize, valued at over $37,000, will provide her with a year of free fun in the CBD, including a year’s supply of beer, hotel stays, eating vouchers, shopping, and much more.
Throughout the month of March, the Brisbane VIP competition offered visitors to the city centre the chance to win one of four weekly ‘mini-VIP’ packages, or the chance to become Brisbane’s VIP by visiting 10 or more days throughout the month.
The competition, led by the Property Council of Australia and supported by the Queensland Government, Brisbane City Council, The Courier-Mail, and a variety of private sector stakeholders, aimed to bring workers and visitors back into the city centre following the drop in foot traffic caused by the COVID pandemic.
Ms Watson expressed her excitement and astonishment at being named the winner, and she is most looking forwards to spending the hospitality coupons.
“Like most city workers, I now spend one or two days working from home, but enjoy coming into the office to meet with friends and colleagues and to collaborate in the workplace,” Watson said.
“As I mostly frequent the CBD for work, I am excited to take up the opportunity to stay at some of the hotels, visit some restaurants, and of course catch the bus or park for free.”
Along with Amanda Watson as the grand prize winner of the Brisbane VIP award, four ‘mini-VIP’ winners were named each Friday in March, with each getting a reward valued roughly $2,000.
Erin Navin, the first weekly winner, believes that some aspects of the city are irreplaceable, such as the perks of working in a team and meeting up with coworkers over coffee.
“And now I have a free carpark and coffee vouchers this will be even easier,” Ms Navin said.
Jen Williams, Queensland Executive Director of the Property Council, said she was encouraged by the competition’s high level of participation, which corresponded with growing office occupancy rates during the month of March.
Ms Watson takes home a $37,000+ prize package that showcases the best the city centre has to offer including; free beer for a year provided by Felons Brewing Co, a years’ worth of CBD parking provided by First Parking, free public transport for a year provided by the State Government, and over $5000 worth of premium dining vouchers.
