NSW 2020 Outlook Series Launch
The Property Council’s Outlook Series for 2020 has officially launched. The events will provide an update on the critical issues facing the property sectors and deliver the information and insights to successfully manage and grow your business throughout 2020.

NSW October Business Lunch: Property Through the Cycles
Property Council held its October Business Lunch on Friday 18 October at the Fullerton Hotel, in which we celebrated 50 years of the Property Council, the growth of the Australian economy and property cycles over the last 50 years. 
An excellent lineup of speakers included Dr Shane Oliver – Head of Investment Strategy and Chief Economist AMP Capital, Katrina King – General Manager, Research and Product Innovation QIC, Alison Harrop – Chief Financial Officer, Dexus, Greg Paramor AO – Chairman, Leftfield Group and Catherine Farrell – Head of Investor Relations for Fortius.
Some of the themes covered in the panel discussion included how the Australian economy is holding up against growing global headwinds, what the biggest drivers of change have been over the last few decades and the effects of major economic downturns, new sectors to emerge in the property industry over the next 20 years and foreign investment in Australia.
We were lucky to enough to have a number of National and NSW Life Members at the event including Lyn Shaddock KSS, Greg Paramor AO, John Elvy, Louise Joslin, together with Property Council’s National President Stephen Conry AM, a number of National Board Directors, past National & NSW Presidents, Property Council CEO Ken Morrison, NSW President Carl Schibrowski and a number of our NSW Division Council Members.
We also awarded four Honorary Life Memberships to Mark Ford, Professor Graeme Newell, Lexia Wilson and Denis Coupland who have all championed the Property Council through long term and ongoing contributions to advocacy and policy formations, championing diversity and fundamentally improving the Property Council’s ability to serve its member in NSW. It was a fantastic way to end our 50th Birthday celebrations!
University of Wollongong a project finalist in state’s premier sustainability awards
A University of Wollongong (UOW) sustainable building project ‘Desert Rose House’ has been recognised and named as a finalist in the State Government’s top environmental awards. The House is one of four finalists in the Green Globe Awards (Build Environment Award Category) which recognises the most sustainable built environment through design or management.
The Desert Rose House is the country’s first net-zero energy home designed to meet the needs of ageing and dementia affected Australians. By incorporating technical and architectural innovations, it generates more electricity than it uses, minimises water consumption and allows its occupants to live independently for as long as possible.
It has been named as a finalist alongside Lendlease’s Barangaroo South, City of Sydney’s Green Square Town Centre and Wollongong City Council which has the oldest building in Australia with a six-star Green Star Rating. Desert Rose House involved more than 200 student volunteers that participated in the design and construction of the human centered project. Read more here.
