This week the Property Council celebrates a significant milestone.
While the organisation was established back in 1969 as the Building Owners and Managers Association, tomorrow marks 20 years since we became the Property Council of Australia.
The change marked the rebirth of the organisation. It shifted advocacy to the centre of what we do. And it sparked two decades of tremendous growth in our influence, our membership reach and in the quality of our member services.
So this week we are taking a moment to celebrate and reflect. Not quite a birthday, more a coming of age.
As part of our 20th anniversary celebrations we are recognising three individuals who have made a tremendous contribution to the Property Council and the industry. On Monday we conferred National Honorary National Life Membership on Victor Hoog Antink, Greg Paramor AO and Carol Schwartz AM. Our state divisions are also honouring new life members as well.
The announcement was made at a dinner in Sydney in front of current and former board members, presidents, life members and corporate leaders.
Addressing the audience, National President Mark Steinert reminded us of both the significance of the industry to the economy and our community, and also of some challenges before our industry. As you can read below, Mark argues housing affordability will be one of the great economic and social challenges of the coming decade – and our industry must continue to be the chief advocates for policies that promote housing supply and home ownership.
To recognise this milestone, we have also developed a timeline tracking the Property Council’s evolution from humble beginnings to the present day.
It’s a history to be proud of as we chart fresh directions for the future.
While we have achieved a great deal – there is a lot more to do.
