Home Property Australia CELEBRATING THE BEST OF THE BEST

CELEBRATING THE BEST OF THE BEST

  • September 01, 2017

In a public service town, many of us rarely stop to think about the role of other industries in building jobs, prosperity and strong communities for the people of Canberra.

But on Friday night, more than 600 property professionals gathered in the Great Hall of Parliament House to celebrate the projects and the people who are helping to build a better national capital.

The awards, sponsored by Hindmarsh, provide a chance for us to reflect on the fact that the property and construction industry employs 25,000 people, generates around 10 per cent of the ACT’s wealth and contributes more than half of all Territory taxes.

The highly-coveted ACT Development of the Year Award was presented to Canberra’s largest aged care provider, Goodwin Aged Care Services Limited, for its innovative approach to the Monash Green retirement living village in Tuggeranong.

Monash Green – which has won national property awards – leads the way in showing why downsizing to a retirement living village can mean upsizing in terms of amenity and quality of life.

Doma Group, led by Managing Director Jure Domazet, was presented with the hotly-contested ACT Business of the Year.  Best known for creating the exciting Realm precinct in Barton, Doma Group has developed a ground-breaking approach to hotel design that is capturing international attention.

ISPT Pty Ltd’s National Circuit development in Barton took out the inaugural ACT Innovation Award for changing the way we think about workplaces. National Circuit is more than a collection of buildings – it’s an urban village with facilities more often found in a high-end hotel than a public service office.

GHD’s Jo Metcalfe was named ACT Property Professional of the Year in recognition of her work to champion the diversity agenda in Canberra’s male-dominated property industry, while another GHD employee, senior design consultant Katrina Povey, was named ACT Future Leader of the Year.

Industry stalwart George Katheklakis was presented with the 2015 Executive Director’s Award.  George embodies the spirit of an industry committed to building a capital city that supports great quality of life for today’s Canberrans and that will be the pride of future generations of Australians.
