Asking “Why Not?”

It was the poet George Bernard Shaw who first wrote the words “some people see things as they are and ask why; I dream of things that never were and ask, why not”.

In this edition of  Property Australia you will see how our industry is answering the question “why not?” every single day.

Our Property Council of Australia / Rider Levett Bucknall Innovation and Excellence Awards, held last Friday night, demonstrated the imagination and creativity that exists in our industry.

The transformation of Development of the Year, Martin Place Sydney, shows the power of renewal and is a worthy winner alongside outstanding buildings of past years. Congratulations to all of our award winners across all categories.

The same imagination was on display at our InvestSA summit last week with a debate over developing a nuclear fuel cycle strategy. Such a strategy could contribute $445 billion to the state’s bottom line over 70 years and drive major infrastructure upgrades. This is a complex debate and will require broad community support if it is to proceed.

In Western Australia, our #designperth study has seen a partnership between the property industry, academia and the Greens to look at the future growth of Perth. The study puts the case for urban infill and will be a useful reference point for policy makers across Australia.

Every day this industry answers the question “why not” and is demonstrating our capacity to take on some of Australia’s most pressing economic and social challenges.
