World Square makes it to the topSydney’s World Square Shopping Centre has beaten the Queen Victoria Building and the Strand Arcade to claim top ranking in CBD mall performance, according to the 2014 Shopping Centre News ‘CBD Guns’ survey. The survey reported a total Moving Annual Turnover (MAT) of $17,265 per sqm for the shopping centre owned by Brookfield and Arcadia. There has been a 21 per cent growth in food and beverage turnover over the past 12 months, along with an 11.3 per cent boost in general retail sales. This marks the first time that World Square has taken the number-one spot. Its chief rivals, the Queen Victoria Building and the Strand Arcade, were ranked second and third highest with $17,017 per sqm and $16,526 per sqm, respectively.CBRE attributes World Square’s success to its prime location. The centre, which is within proximity to public transport options and a large residential population and workforce, currently brings in more than 25 million visitors per annum. In addition to 90-plus specialty stores (including Rebel Sport, JB Hi-Fi, Priceline and a Coles supermarket), the precinct includes 90,000 sqm of office space, an adjoining 400-room hotel and the nearby Meriton apartment building.
