Woods Bagot named Designer of the Year
Woods Bagot has won the coveted Designer of the Year Award at the IDEA Awards, announced at a Gala Party on 21 November. The party was held at the grand ballroom of the Royal Randwick building, with interiors by Woods Bagot.
The Interior Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) is Australia’s largest and most successful independent design awards program. Launched by Inside magazine in 2003, the program celebrates the best of Australian interior and product design across 11 categories and five special awards.
The program attracts hundreds of entries from practices and designers from across Australia. Entries are judged by a panel of design industry professionals. The 2014 Jury is Miriam Fanning, founding director of Mim Design, Fiona Dunin, founder of fmd architects, product designer Trent Jansen, Grant Amon of Grant Amon Architects, product designer Jon Goulder, and Mark Simpson the joint creative director of DesignOffice.
Woods Bagot was shortlisted for seven awards this year: The Collins Adelaide (Hospitality), Royal Randwick Sydney (Hospitality and Sustainability), NAB 700 Bourke Street Melbourne (Workplace over 1000sqm), Co-working Village NAB Melbourne (Public Space), the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute Adelaide (Public Space) and Designer of the Year. Congratulations also to Melbourne studio architect, Josh Carmody, who was personally shortlisted for Object – Furniture and Lighting and nominated as Emerging Designer of the Year.
Woods Bagot was one of six design firms shortlisted for the Designer of the Year Award, including Greg Natale Design, Hassell, Luchetti Krelle, McBride Charles Ryan and Travis Walton Architecture.

All shortlisted projects are published in a special shortlist edition of Inside magazine, and the full shortlist will appear on the website. Winning projects and designers will also be published online and profiled in a special IDEA 2014 edition of Inside magazine.
