What will the City Deal Deliver for SEQ?
The Property Council of Australia’s highly-anticipated SEQ City Deal Lunch was held on Friday 15 March, mere hours after the SEQ City Deal Statement of Intent was signed.
Over 5 people attended the lunch to hear the latest developments from the unfolding SEQ City Deal, relayed by Lord Mayor Graham Quirk, Chair of the Council of Mayors (SEQ); Hon Jackie Trad MP, Deputy Premier, Treasurer and Minister for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships; and Hon Alan Tudge MP, Minister for Cities, Urban Infrastructure and Population.
The conversation between the three levels of government was moderated by Property Council of Australia’s Chief Executive, Ken Morrison, and marked the first time that Federal, State and Local political leaders had spoken to the property industry on the key pillars of the SEQ Deal.
The development of an SEQ City Deal has the potential to align all three levels of government on strategies to drive the economy, facilitate development, deliver much-needed infrastructure and cater for the region’s growing population.
Throughout the panel conversation, the government representatives reiterated their support for working together to negotiate the best Deal for SEQ, and their commitment to the long-term, reform opportunities it presents.
The Property Council has long advocated for an SEQ City Deal, and strongly supports the development of key proposals that were included within the recently released Transforming SEQ: The SEQ City Deal Proposition, including infrastructure and growth compacts, opening up underutilised government-owned land for development, and coordinating a more integrated approach to land-use planning.
The Property Council would like to thank Hon Alan Tudge MP, Hon Jackie Trad MP, and Lord Mayor Graham Quirk, for joining us on this momentous day for SEQ. Thank you also to our Major Sponsor, Rider Levett Bucknall and Supporting Sponsor, Stockland for their support of this event.
