What’s Driving Change in the Office Market?
The Property Council’s latest CCRE Breakfast, ‘What’s Driving Change in the Office Market?’ held on Thursday 11 October at Herbert Smith Freehills, explored industry experts’ predictions on the future for office space.
Natalie Slessor, General Manger Workplace & Change for Lendlease, opened the event by overviewing the next generation’s expectations of commercial and corporate developments, explaining the changes we are likely to see as this generation moves into the workforce.
Following this, Natalie was joined by Marcus Mulholland, Manager Development Services, City Planning & Sustainability Division for Brisbane City Council; Jaime Burnell, Asset Manager for Dexus; and Amanda Shea, Senior Workplace Strategist for CBRE, for a fantastic panel discussion moderated by Matt Miller, Regional Manager Queensland of Commercial Urban Regeneration for Lendlease, and Chair of the Property Council’s Queensland Commercial and Corporate Real Estate Committee.
While discussing the issue of co-located spaces, the panel members suggested health and wellbeing facilities, childcare centres and retail spaces could successfully coexist within corporate buildings to improve work-life balance. Panel members also explored the potential technologies and developments that they expect to see enter the market, while acknowledging the ‘B grade’ stock that still holds a large area of land in Brisbane.
The key theme coming out of the conversation was that workplaces will need to become places people want to be in, rather than have to be in.
The Property Council would like to thank Natalie, Jaime, Marcus, Amanda and Matt for participating in the discussion. Thank you also to breakfast sponsor Arcadis, and our host, Herbert Smith Freehills.
