WGE appoints first female non-engineer Principal
Wood & Grieve Engineers has announced the promotion of two new Principals in the Perth office, Shelley Phillipson and Alasdair MacKerron.
Shelley is the first female non-engineer to be promoted to Principal and says that this reflects the organisation’s increasing recognition of business development.
“I am thrilled and truly humbled to join the Principal group at WGE. Becoming a Principal leader in the business was always a goal of mine and seeing it come true is exciting and honestly, a little overwhelming,” she said.
“WGE focuses on the value an individual brings to the company, not the role they play. The function of marketing in a professional service company is fundamentally strategic and it is excellent to see that value being recognised.
When asked what advice she would give to other young females looking to climb the career ladder Shelley said:
“Go for it! Being a female in the property industry has its’ advantages as well as disadvantages. See the glass half full and use your diversity to your advantage. Don’t be afraid to speak out and ask for what you want. I clearly outlined my desire to become a Principal and my Directors worked with me to set KPIs that demonstrated the value I bring. I then had to meet those KPIs which is no different from anyone, male or female. It just takes hard work.”
Alasdair MacKerron says he has worked closely with the broader business to realise opportunities and improve both internal and client-focused processes.
“I am delighted to have been offered a Principal shareholding in what is a strong, client focused business which, at its core, is a great group of people,” he said
WGE CEO José Granado said that recognising and rewarding excellent performance has been core part of WGE since the company began over years ago.
“We are very proud of the achievements of our team and we are very pleased to welcome a total of six new Principals across our nationwide team,” he said.
“This number reflects the continuing success and growth of WGE in key markets across Australia.”
