Water meters fitted before practical completion
SA Water is committed to providing a safe and secure water supply to all our customers every day. After extensive investigation a new process has been introduced where meters are installed to all new residential allotments on greenfield sites before the Certificate of Practical Completion is issued.
This is a risk mitigation measure designed to prevent potential backflow that can contaminate the drinking water supply. The installation of meters, which contain the backflow prevention devices, was considered to be the most cost effective and efficient way to guarantee our water safety.
All water meters are now fitted with security clamps to deter theft and their removal during the building process of homes. SA Water is regularly auditing these sites the ensure the new policy has been adopted.
These meters will require activation prior to any water use. The activation application form and process can be found on SA Water website.
