Waste Levy Legislation Passed

New legislation, passed on Thursday 14 February 2019, has reintroduced the Queensland waste disposal levy.

The levy will be applied to all waste entering Queensland landfill from 1 July 2019.

Waste will be charged at $75 – $1 per tonne for the initial year, following this, fees will be increased each year for the next five years.

Last year, the Property Council submitted feedback to the Waste Reduction and Recycling (Waste Levy) and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2018, calling for the Government to acknowledge measures that would prevent costs being passed down to Queensland households.

The Property Council will continue advocating to government and calling for the implementation of better sustainability practices that do not unfairly target the property industry.
