WA Village Manager of the Year wins on resident and staff satisfaction
A great relationship with residents and staff, along with a commitment to good management and continuous improvement, are the hallmarks of the winner of the Programmed Award for Village Manager of the Year in Western Australia.
The award was presented to Paul Elson (pictured below on right), the Village Manager for Arcadia Waters in Geraldton, at the WA Property Awards in Perth last night.
Paul has been the manager at Arcadia Waters Geraldton since September 2015. The 65-unit village is home to more than 90 residents. He commenced working with Arcadia in 2005 as a maintenance and landscaping contractor before taking on maintenance and project management roles prior to his appointment as village manager at Geraldton.
As the Geraldton village is remote in comparison to the rest of the Arcadia Group’s activities, Paul’s ability to promote a harmonious village environment while working independently as the manager has helped the village thrive.
Paul’s positive, friendly attitude and open door approach to residents was highlighted in his award nomination. Residents at Arcadia Waters Geraldton see him as more than a highly capable and effective manager, but an also integral member of the village community who takes part in activities. In his residents’ words: “Paul treats the village as his home and the residents as his family. He is a friend to everyone and goes out of his way to help us and the other residents.”
Paul has introduced numerous initiatives during his period at Arcadia Waters Geraldton as part of his commitment to continuous improvement, including programs such as a safety awareness month for residents as well as managing a complicated transition to the NBN, ensuring residents’ emergency call system were not disrupted.
In addition to his day-to-day management responsibilities, Paul has been instrumental in improving sales results for the village which is testament to the work he has done in the village and wider community.
Paul now enters the running for the National Programmed Award for Village Manager of the Year, to be presented at the National Retirement Living Awards.
The awards recognise the contribution and achievements across all areas of the retirement living sector by the people and companies helping ensure senior Australians have an enjoyable retirement.
