WA’s best projects and people vie for property awards
Eleven outstanding Western Australian projects and people will be vying for national recognition at the 2018 Property Council of Australia / Rider Levett Bucknall Innovation and Excellence Awards in May.
The awards program, now in its 36th year in partnership with RLB, showcases the nation-building projects, innovative solutions and extraordinary leadership in Australia’s property industry.
“From new housing developments to heritage restorations, and from vibrant shopping centres to affordable homes, the calibre of finalists from WA reinforces our state’s commitment to high-quality, innovative development,” says Lino Iacomella, the Property Council’s WA Executive Director.
The short-listed finalists are:
- Alkimos Beach by Lendlease and LandCorp (EPM Projects Award for Best Master Planned
- Community)
- Angelo Amara, JLL (du Chateau Chun Award for Future Leader of the Year)
- Blackburne, Aria Swanbourne (Crown Group Award for Best Residential Development)
- Calleya Estate (Finalist in two categories – EPM Projects Award for Best Master Planned Community and KONE Award for Development Innovation)
- Eidetic Asset Management (Equiem Award for Project Innovation)
- Haven @ Rockingham (Gough Recruitment Award for Best Affordable Housing Development)
- Newhaven (Crown Group Award for Best Residential Development)
- Stockland Harrisdale (Yardi Award for Best Shopping Centre Development)
- The Goods Shed at Claremont on the Park (S4B Studio Award for Best Heritage Development)
- Vale, Stockland (EPM Projects Award for Best Master Planned Community)
- Whiteman Edge (Gough Recruitment Award for Best Affordable Housing Development)
Among the finalists are Calleya, which has transformed a dormant sand quarry into a vibrant residential community only 23 km from the Perth CBD, Vale, which has created a distinctive development that respects local character and preserves important conservation values, and Alkimos Beach, which achieved Australia’s first Green Star rating for a master-planned community.
“Western Australia has a solid reputation for its delivery of master-planned communities, and we once again boast three of the seven national finalists. This is a real testament to the strength of our industry, which has weathered the lean years without sacrificing quality or commitment to innovation,” Mr Iacomella says.
Mr Iacomella says the local industry’s innovative approach to affordable housing is also being watched closely in other parts of the country, with two of the four national finalists hailing from WA.
“Haven combines architectural design, innovative financing and a commitment to sustainability to deliver affordable, liveable housing product, while Whiteman Edge blends easy access to public transport, green spaces and great services in an affordable community,” Mr Iacomella explains. Meanwhile, The Goods Shed, one of Perth’s oldest station buildings, is a finalist for its painstaking 18-month heritage restoration.
“Falling into a state of disrepair after a decade’s use as a storage unit, The Goods Shed now contributes to the vibrancy of the Claremont community, and offers a platform for the community to enjoy the neighbourhood’s cultural life,” says RLB’s Managing Director, Mark Bendotti.
Finally, Angelo Amara’s meteoric rise from junior property manager to JLL’s Head of Property and Asset Management in a brief eight years has been recognised, and he will be competing against nine national colleagues for the Future Leader of the Year award.
“Angelo’s commitment to mentor a team of 43 property professionals, and his steadfast championship of technology and innovation, make him a worthy Future Leader,” Mr Bendotti adds.
All national development finalists are in the running for the industry’s most coveted prize – the Rider Levett Bucknall Australian Development of the Year award. All development projects named as finalists are also vying for the State Development of the Year award in their state.
National award winners will be announced at the 2018 Property Council of Australia / Rider Levett Bucknall Innovation and Excellence Awards Gala Dinner, to be held at the International Convention Centre Sydney on Friday 11 May 2018. Tickets are now on sale.
