Victorian Retirement Villages Act review to commence this year

The Victorian Government has committed to undertake a review of the Retirement Villages Act as part of its response to the 2017 Parliamentary Inquiry into the regulation of the retirement housing sector. The Minister for Consumer Affairs, the Hon Marlene Kairouz MP has indicated that the review will commence before the end of the year.

The review will likely focus on the recommendations outlined in the Victorian Government’s response to the Legal and Social Issues Committee’s Inquiry into the retirement housing sector, as well as other current issues and developments relevant to the sector.

The Property Council, together with other key industry, resident and consumer stakeholders have been supporting the framing of the Review as part of a Stakeholder Reference Group established by the Department of Justice and Community Safety.A formal commencement date is yet to be announced, however we will continue to assist the Department in the foundation stages and will ensure members are informed of the various opportunities to engage with the review throughout the process.

For more information about the review contact the Retirement Living Policy Advisor, Emily Young, on [email protected].

We also encourage you to join us on Monday 7 October for the Victorian Retirement Forum where we will explore the impact of technology, planning regulations, design trends and dispute resolution with our industry experts. Click here for more event information.
