Victorian retirement housing inquiry submission finalised
The Property Council has finalised its submission to the Victorian Parliament’s Inquiry into the Retirement Housing Sector, calling for the introduction of a dedicated Retirement Living Minister.
The submission was put together by the Property Council’s Victorian Retirement Living Committee and responded to the inquiry’s five specific terms of reference. Read the submission here.
More than 43,000 Victorians live in retirement villages, with high rates of resident satisfaction and a very low level of complaints: just 0.13 per cent of all residents made a complaint in 2014-15 according to Consumer Affairs Victoria data.
“The Property Council has long advocated for the creation of [a retirement living] portfolio to foster this burgeoning sector as we believe that it would be of great benefit to Victoria,” the submission states.
“This sector gives Government the opportunity to build a strong foundation for Victoria’s economy by attracting private sector investment into public services that are in growing demand.”
The Parliament’s Legal and Social Affairs Committee will hold public hearings in the second half of the year and deliver its report with recommendations no later than the start of March 2017.
