Victorian Planning Authority established

Melbourne’s Metropolitan Planning Authority has been expanded to facilitate a state wide approach to managing growth.

The new Victorian Planning Authority (VPA) will build on the MPA’s strategic focus, to include redevelopment sites and regional cities and towns.

Its role will include planning for urban renewal in Melbourne’s inner and middle suburbs, designing new suburbs in Melbourne’s growth areas, and supporting local governments with planning work in regional cities and towns.

A $2.1 million specialist regional unit has been established and a further $2 million funding assigned to streamline subdivision processes and unlock strategic development sites across the State.

The VPA are interested in hearing from councils and the property and development industry on any opportunities.

Lastly, the VPA is also examining Victoria’s post PSP subdivision processes.  It has a program that will support councils to speed up approvals, and ensure that Victoria’s strong advantage in providing well designed and affordable lots in Greenfield areas.
