VICTORIA PARK VISION: CONSULTATION OPEN

Brisbane City Council has announced The Victoria Park Vision; a proposal to develop the Victoria Park Golf Course into the biggest park Brisbane has seen in years.

Brisbane City Council (BCC) has announced plans to turn the current site of the Victoria Park Golf Course into a massive public park.

Public consultation has now opened for the new initiative, and BCC are encouraging industry to provide transformational ideas for how the area can be best utilised. Current ideas for activation include pop-up cinemas, markets and the concept of play areas for all ages.

Plans to better connect the new park have already begun, with both lines of the upcoming Brisbane Metro set to transport patrons directly to the ground through Herston and Kelvin Grove Stations.

Following the initial announcement of the new park the Property Council wrote to the Lord Mayor congratulating him on the initiative and vision.  In our correspondence we flagged that while public parks are essential for the livability of capital cities, thorough consideration needs to be given to proposals and initiatives that activate these areas.

We implore Council to be open to exploring the new and exciting opportunities presented by industry members, throughout the redevelopment process. It is the careful consideration of appropriate and sensitive development that will add vibrancy and activation to parts of the park, preventing it from becoming another underutilized parkland.
