Vale Eddie Sanfilippo

It was with heavy hearts the industry this week farewelled Managing Director of the Burbank Group of Companies, Eddie Sanfilippo, who lost his battle with mesothelioma on 26 November 2016.

A property visionary with a larger than life character, Eddie was admired and respected immensely by all who knew him.  He followed his passion for property after a long and rewarding career in banking and finance, co-founding the successful, family-operated Burbank Group of Companies over thirty years ago.

But Eddie’s accolades certainly weren’t restricted to traditional detached housing.  Due to Eddie’s vision, the Burbank Group now has a string of award-winning medium and high density developments under its belt, including the most recent and revolutionary Mosaic Apartments in Dandenong.  Other flagship urban renewal projects developed under Eddie’s leadership include Denton Mills in Abbotsford, Kensington Banks, MV1 in Roxburgh Park, Yarravillage and Blue Edge Apartments in Yarraville and Edgewater Apartments in Maribyrnong, just to name a few.

An entrepreneur who never missed an opportunity to grow his empire, Eddie evolved the Burbank Group of Companies from its humble beginnings in Melbourne’s west into a thriving, multi-faceted business that is revolutionising home building and achieving excellence across a diverse range of industries.

Two months before Eddie lost his battle to cancer, he was awarded the prestigious Raymond J Peck Award for excellence in service to the urban development industry.  In front of more than a thousand of his peers, Eddie proudly, and very deservedly, accepted the award he had witnessed many of his property idols accept before him.

While Eddie’s passing will leave a gaping hole in the lives of his industry peers, work colleagues, friends and family, he will always be remembered for both his outstanding contribution to the development industry – and for being an outstanding bloke.
