Upgrades for the Opera House and Walsh BayA $600 million Arts and Cultural Infrastructure Fund has been promised as part of the Baird Government’s Rebuilding NSW Plan. $202 million will be spent on the renewal of the Sydney Opera House and $139 million will go to improving the Walsh Bay Arts Precinct.Improvements to the Opera House include modernisation of the Concert Hall and a new function centre. Walsh Bay Arts Precinct is to host new performance venues in Pier 2/3 and refurbished facilities in Wharf 4/5. The two wharves will be united with a new public square on the waterfront. It is hoped that the two upgrades will encourage more people to access the arts and cement NSW as a world-class tourism destination. The upgrades would be funded by the partial lease of the State’s ‘poles and wires’.
