Transport @ 3.5 Million Released
The final version of the State’s long-term transport plan has been released.
The transport plan was released for public comment in July 2016. Some changes have been made following the consultation period.
These changes include:
• The proposed subway has been expanded to include South Perth, UWA and QEII Medical Centre.
• A new rail link is proposed between Bayswater and Morley.
The Ellenbrook rail line, also made an appearance, scheduled to be ready when Perth’s population hits 3.5 million in 20
The Transport portfolio has proposed to develop sub-regional transport plans that will align with the upcoming finalised Perth and Peel @ 3.5million land use planning frameworks.
Key features in the new transport plan that are supported by the property sector, include: the focus on connecting activity centres in suburban Perth; and tunnelling as a cost-effective method to create improved transport connections and promote infill development, while decreasing traffic congestion in urban areas.
The plan still lacks a clear timeline for major projects and funding arrangements. The Property Council is calling for:
- Industry participation in the next step of creating the sub-regional transport plans to be released in the WA Planning Commission’s Perth and Peel @ 3.5million land use plan.
- More certainty into funding mechanisms, we welcome the decision to establish a national study into the potential benefits and impacts of road user charging for light vehicles, to fund road infrastructure.
- A clear outline detailing prioritised projects with clear and consistent timeframes.
- The creation of an independent infrastructure coordination agency to ensure the transport plan is linked up with the state’s planning strategy.
