Townsville State Development Area Amendments
The Queensland Government is proposing changes to the Townsville State Development Area (SDA).
The changes are aimed at attracting further investment and accelerating development in this industrial precinct, located 2km south of the Port of Townsville.
Key changes include:
• fewer precincts to reduce complexity and improve flexibility,
• regulating more than just material change of use to promote development coordination and assessment efficiencies,
• streamlining development assessment processes through the identification of development that will not need to undergo public consultation if it is consistent with the relevant precinct’s intent, and
• a new format and minor mapping changes to ensure consistency with updated constraints mapping.
The Townsville City Deal, signed in December 2016, contains a commitment to develop a business case for the acceleration of the SDA. The Government’s proposed changes are a direct response to this commitment.
Public consultation on the changes closes on 10 December.
