Townsville City Council recently released its City Activation and Jobs Growth Policy 22/23.
The City Activation and Jobs Growth Policy has four incentives packages covering:
- New and Repurposed Development – infrastructure and other changes charges can be waived for eligible projects to promote high-value development in the prescribed Townsville City Core, Fringe and Medium Density zoned areas.
- Attracting Jobs to the City – offers rental subsidies for eligible businesses looking to operate within Townsville’s CBD.
- Modernising Buildings and Activating Spaces – offers grants to support a wide variety of initiatives which activates the city streets, improving the attractiveness, vibrancy, or safety of the city centre.
- Special or Significant Economic or Social Benefit – provides Council scope to offer discretionary incentives.
The Property Council’s Townsville Chapter has worked closely with Council to reshape their incentives to better drive investment. The revised policy relaxes a number of eligibility requirements for some incentives while expanding the scope of others. In addition, the new Special or Significant Economic Benefit incentive is a welcome addition, allows Council to support major developments that would have a significant positive impact on Townsville but require a more substantial or tailored incentive.
Further information on the incentives being offered and how to access them can be found here.
