The Spit Master Plan Released
Following an 18-month master planning process, the Queensland Government has released The Spit Master Plan.
The Master Plan aims to provide a shared, long-term vision for The Spit, enhancing the public realm and community space, protecting environmental and community values, facilitating development opportunities and creating new jobs.
The document is divided into six strategies:
• Growing a green peninsula
• Promoting tourism and recreation
• Making places and cultural connections
• Linking experiences
• Connecting to the city
• Operating as the gateway to the Gold Coast
The Master Plan also addresses plans for development within each of the seven precincts.
The Property Council has assisted the State Government throughout the consultation process, advocating for a process that aligns future development, community expectations and required infrastructure provisions.
Within the feedback, the Property Council raised concerns with the height overlays that restrict commercial outcomes and will place limitations on the Village Centre Precinct. Unfortunately, the Master Plan has employed a maximum three-storey height limit, which will undoubtably limit the scale of development, tourism and entertainment options.
The Spit Master Plan is available here.
