The secret to truly great place-making

What makes somewhere a truly great place to live? What are the key ingredients, and importantly, how do we get them?

Property Council WA is proud to be hosting a very special breakfast to answer these questions.

Creating Great Places for Perth will examine the factors that have led to the world-leading place-making triumph that is Sydney’s Barangaroo precinct.

Lendlease’s Executive General Manager Barangaroo South, Leanne Boyle, will share the secrets to Barangaroo’s success as a truly innovative mixed use, commercial, retail and entertainment precinct.

Most importantly these lessons will be considered in a local context, looking at the unprecedented opportunities WA’s new community schemes will unlock for the state.

Part of a broader legislative package reforming the state’s strata laws passed in November last year and heralded as “historic”, the community schemes will give Perth the opportunity to build developments the likes of which we have never seen before.

Providing a new option for subdividing a single parcel of freehold land into multiple community titles schemes, they already exist in other states including New South Wales, South Australia and Queensland.

At the time of the changes passing through parliament Minister Rita Saffioti said, “Reforms to strata legislation will benefit those who live in, own, manage, develop or are considering purchasing strata property.

“They will also help to deliver Metronet station precincts with new ways to create low-to-medium density housing in creative and sustainable ways.”

With regulations for the new community schemes currently being drafted, now is the time to make sure you understand these reforms and the multitude of opportunities they offer.

Last year the Property Council undertook detailed research to see what people in our capital cities thought about where they live and understand why.

It found that great places to live have the right mix of community and culture, with local employment and housing for people at every stage of their life that they can afford and transport that connects you with where you need to go.

Perth stood out for the number of people (38 per cent) who felt that the city was becoming a better place to live.
