The latest on South Perth planning
The Minister for Planning Donna Faragher will make the final decision on the controversial South Perth Station Precinct Town Planning Scheme Amendment 46 ,which was adopted by the City of South Perth this week.
The amendment will limit height bonuses and reintroduce set-backs in a key development precinct in South Perth. The amendment is controversial because the existing town planning scheme, which was only recently implemented after community and industry consultation was immediately successful in attracting a large number of new development proposals, including several that were given planning approval by the local Development Assessment Panel.
However, in adopting the latest amendment the City of South Perth announced it was only an interim measure and a subsequent amendment is likely.
The Property Council is very concerned that South Perth is the latest example of the growing uncertainty and inconsistency around planning regulations across local authorities in Metropolitan Perth. The Property Council is preparing an urgent submission for the Minister for Planning, recommending ministerial intervention in affected councils.
