Terrorism Alert Level Raised

Prime Minister Tony Abbott has announced that Australia’s national terrorism public alert level has been raised to ‘high’.

The Prime Minister said that this was not based on any knowledge of a specific attack plan, but a body of evidence that points to an increased likelihood of a terrorist attack against Australia.

Owners and operators of places of mass gatherings (like shopping centres and office buildings) are “encouraged to review their security plans and update their contact details with their state or territory police counter-terrorism unit.”

The Property Council has been liaising with counter-terrorism agencies and will pass on any advice as we receive it.

To assist our commercial and retail owners and managers in understanding the current security context and identifying the type of response plans they should have in place, the Property Council in Queensland will this morning (3/9) hold a briefing with Queensland Police Service’s Counter-Terrorism Unit and a representative from QPS’ Brisbane Central District Police Unit.

The Property Council has created a national resource portal for documents and information regarding this issue.

We will continue to update this portal with details stemming from the briefing, along with additional resources as they become available.
