Territory Women in Property
The Property Council of Australia sat down with Jacqueline Cavanagh, Branch Manager at Whittles to get to know what drives her passion for the property sector and how she developed an interest in the industry.
Jacqueline is a true Territorian, born and bred in Darwin. An interest in the property industry stems from a family history in the property sector which saw Jacqueline take the opportunity to undertake work experience with her father who managed a number of large commercial developments across the Territory.
Even though she was only in her teens at the time, Jacqueline knew that this was the industry she wanted to pursue her career in.
Jacqueline completed her Agent’s Representative Licence, whilst working in an administration role for a local Darwin real estate agent. Upon successful completion of her licence, she transitioned into management of a large residential property management portfolio. This role formed a solid base for a progression into strata management.
Jacqueline joined the team at Whittles in 2006. Over the last 9 years, Jacqueline has gained experience in a diverse portfolio, including management of marinas and mixed use developments. Her strong leadership skills, career motivation and drive for excellence saw her appointed to Branch Manager in 2012.
“I am passionate about the Territory and the lifestyle this colourful city has to offer. Having lived in Darwin my whole life, I have seen a lot of changes to the skyline. Darwin is a unique place and it’s important to hold on to the things that make this place what it is, while still providing for growth. We are such a young city with great potential and it’s really exciting to be a part of the industry in this day and age.”
“Family time is very important to me. It can be tricky at times to find the right balance, but I’m lucky enough to have a very supportive husband and family support network”. Jacqueline explains as a working mother of 2; Elizabeth, 6 and Hayden, 3.
Jacqueline aims to continue to grow the Whittles portfolio and strengthen the relationships they have with their clients while also increasing their exposure.
She is committed to advocating the need to change legislation to allow corporations more power to cover the things that impact the day to day for our clients.
