Taxes and Charges on New Housing
New research, released this week by the Residential Development Council, has found that government taxes and charges make up 21% of the cost of new homes and units in Brisbane.
The research, commissioned by the Residential Development Council and undertaken by ACIL Allen Consulting, found that taxes and charges across all three levels of government are a major burden for home buyers in both greenfield and infill developments.
While producing a snapshot of the current scope of the property taxes and charges borne by new housing, the report also suggests a number of principles that would guide the best practice use of infrastructure charges and developer contributions.
Housing affordability continues to be a national advocacy priority for the Property Council, with more information available on the Property Council website.
The Residential Development Council’s ‘Taxes and Charges on New Housing’ is also available on the Property Council website.
