Tamaki Regeneration Project
As Auckland New Zealand continues to grow at a steady pace, new challenges and opportunities have presented themselves in the areas of quality housing options and provision of community benefit.
The Auckland-based TÄmaki Regeneration Company (TRC) has announced a procurement approach that will commence in Q2 2016 to deliver a first-of-its-kind physical and social regeneration programme in the eastern suburbs of Glen Innes, Panmure and Point England.
TRC’s shareholders, the New Zealand Government and Auckland Council, approved the approach last week to begin a market process to secure a large scale development and investment partner(s), and housing services partners. The all-inclusive programme of work will deliver approximately 6000 houses and other community benefits over the next 10-15 years.
TÄmaki has been identified as a priority for growth by central and local government. The area is well situated with close proximity to the CBD, beaches, shopping, and public transport links. Historically, TÄmaki has been home to a significant amount of social housing, totalling 170 hectares and 2800 of the 00 total homes in the area.
Central to the regeneration programme, TRC will oversee the redevelopment of TÄmaki’s existing social housing to unlock 70 new, quality dwellings. The mixed-tenure communities will transform currently underutilised land, offer a range of housing types and usher in social and economic development opportunities.
TRC will be seeking a partner to undertake a master developer role including delivery of new quality neighbourhoods and housing, as well as ownership of the new social houses. The procurement process has been designed to use the size of the project to attract large scale partners to help achieve innovation and cost efficiencies.
The TÄmaki Regeneration presents a unique opportunity to contribute to one of Auckland’s highest commercial and economic priorities. For more information about the project, visit www.tamakiregeneration.co.nz or contact John Holyoake at +64 27 655 0060.
