Sydney’s new city neighbourhood

Lendlease has worked with Infrastructure NSW and Property New South Wales to transform Darling Harbour and the Haymarket precinct into a vibrant new city neighbourhood, Darling Square, that delivers an enhanced experience for visitors, workers and residents.

Darling Square is a new precinct, featuring new streets, public spaces, new retail outlets, eateries, apartments, student accommodation, community facilities, innovative commercial office spaces and easy access to public transport including the new light rail.

Darling Square is in the heart of Sydney’s digital, media, knowledge and creative precincts and Australia’s first 6-star Green Star community.

The Darling Square’s Commercial Building is fully tenanted by the Commonwealth Bank of Australia. The building was designed by Woods Bagot and accommodates 3000 of the bank’s staff.

Steam Mill Lane will consist of 16 retailers, comprising a range of eateries and services over 1,570 sqm.

Adding to the precinct will be the new Darling Exchange – Designed by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, the Darling Exchange will be a six-storey community and retail building with a facade wrapped in 20 kilometres of sustainably sourced timber. The Exchange features a market hall, mezzanine restaurant, 21st century library, childcare centre, and rooftop restaurant and bar.

Due for completion in 2019, The precinct is part of Sydney’s $13bn transformation that will re-energise Sydney City and ultimately enhance Sydney’s position as a global city.
