Supporting senior Territorians
Last night, the Northern Territory Parliament passed a motion to investigate the need for residential retirement facilities in the Territory.
The Property Council of Australia supports this motion and agrees with the investigation to best support the planning process.
The Property Council of Australia’s Director Northern Territory Ruth Palmer said, “We would welcome the opportunity to work with the NT Government in providing strategic advice and planning policy.
“We have a very effective Retirement Living Council which plays a critical role in the ongoing growth and sustainability of the retirement living industry.
“We are the only national organisation solely focused on advocating on the critical issues focusing on housing and service for older people.”
The Property Council of Australia has produced a Policy, The 5A’s of Retirement Living: Towards Proactive Policy (2015), RPS which covers and looks at state and local government planning frameworks that impact supply of new retirement village units.
“This project examines how existing planning frameworks and development controls affect the retirement living sector and recommends what changes the government should implement to encourage investment in retirement living facilities.
“As our population ages and our population continues to grow, we must ensure that we have the framework right from the get go. We want all Senior Territorians to be supported from now until well into the future.”
The Property Council of Australia’s Northern Territory Division has an established Retirement and Residential Committee that is responsible for representing the interests of the NT’s retirement living sector.
