SUBMISSION UPDATE

The Property Council has provided the following submissions on the Environmental Protection Act, Brisbane’s Knowledge Corridor, and Townsville City Council’s proposed Unsightly Buildings Local Law.

Brisbane’s Knowledge Corridor

The Property Council has provided the following submission on Brisbane’s Knowledge Corridor.

Brisbane’s Knowledge Corridor is a precinct development strategy that seeks to leverage the major infrastructure development around Cross-River Rail and Brisbane Metro.

The Property Council’s submission provides feedback on how the Knowledge Corridor should fit into a broader inner-city strategy and align with the development of the SEQ City Deal and Olympics bid.

The Property Council also provided input into specific elements of the individual framework and five specific precinct strategies.

Environmental Protection and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2020

The Property Council has provided a submission on the Environmental Protection and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2020.

The Property Council’s submission concerns the components of the Bill which seek to reinstate the ‘notifiable activities’ regime that existed in Queensland prior to changes in the Environmental Protection Act introduced in 2015 and the introduction of a ‘residual risk fund’ that will allow landowners to better understand the possible risks associated with the long term use of their land.

Townsville City Council Unsightly Buildings Law

The Property Council has provided a submission to Townsville City Council on Proposed New Local Law 8 and Subordinate Local Law 8 (Unsightly Buildings) 2020.

Overall, the Property Council supports the proposed laws which are intended to maintain and improve the amenity of buildings within Townsville’s CBD.

However, the Property Council is also advocating for an incentives package to encourage building owners to maintain the appearance of their buildings. The Property Council believes the incentives package should include:

  • An increased level of funding and extension of the timeframes offered through the current development incentives package
  • Additional resources to assist property owners with graffiti removal, for example, free graffiti removal kits
