STRATA REFORM REFERRED TO STANDING COMMITTEE ON LEGISLATION
Last week the Strata Titles Amendment Bill 2018 was referred to the Standing Committee on Legislation for review.
The Standing Committee will examine Proposed Part 12 (Termination of Strata Titles Scheme) and is due to report back by 16 October 2018.
It is disappointing that the legislation is further delayed, however we acknowledge the pragmatic decision of the Legislative Council to refer only one aspect of the Bill to the Committee and to ensure a limited time for the Committee to undertake its review.
The Property Council strongly supports the McGowan Labor Government’s strata reform initiative and its objectives of improving the way WA strata schemes are developed and managed, and at the same time providing for development of new and innovative housing options and greater housing choice. We continue to encourage progression of the Bills to finalisation as soon as possible.
The Property Council in collaboration with our members is preparing a submission to the Standing Committee, emphasising the positive impact the Bill will have in facilitating creation of thriving communities and economic prosperity across the State.
