Stories from a different generation at Glengowrie

Students from Brighton Secondary School in Adelaide have presented residents of Glengowrie Retirement Village with carefully crafted biographies as part of a class project.

The year 11 students put together the life stories based on a series of interviews conducted at the village’s community centre in late March.

Participating residents received a DVD and printed copy of their biography from students at the village this week.

Both residents and students thoroughly enjoyed learning about each other’s generation.

Resident Rita Mugg said the students were a joy to spend time with.

“I really enjoyed meeting the young ones,” she said.

“It’s been a while since I engaged with teens, and I was really impressed by their attitude towards the elderly.”

Resident Barrie Anderson said being interviewed was an excellent experience.

“The more inter-generational interactions, the better our society,” he said.

English teacher Maj-Lis Borgen-Smith coordinated the project.

“It has been one of the best teaching experiences I’ve had in my 35 years of teaching,” she said.

Village manager Debbie Dean said the students are welcome back any time.
