State of The Union Report
The Property Council held its annual State of the Union luncheon on the 9th October at Skycity.
Leader of the Opposition Michael Gunner launched his plan for the Territory to over 110 people from the business community.
If elected in 2016, Labor’s overarching focus in Government will be to restore trust in government, tackle long term, intransigent social issues by focussing on children and creating jobs to boost growth and greater population.
Michael Gunner outlined that he is prepared to give certainty to the Darwin City Council by backing their Darwin City Centre Master Plan and that he supports unban infill and the proposed development of the Berrimah Farm.
Gunner believes the rural should be left rural and that over the course of a first term, a labor Government would do the master planning for the rural area and Weddell. During the second term, they would start investing in the infrastructure that makes capable the expansion to Weddell so that future governments can turn land off.
A key focus in Gunner’s election pitch was certainty. Certainty for business by working with SME’s well in advance of major projects to prepare them for the role and to help build the capacity of local business. By establishing programs to support potential employers starting a business or to existing employers to improve skills and boost productivity.
Labor will look to re-instate Team NT which will be charged with the responsibility of promoting the Territory to Australia.
Investment will be aimed at leveraging the private sector growth with a commitment to the continued expansion and development of the oil and gas industry.
