State Government unveils WA COVID Roadmap
The State Government revealed its plans to gradually remove COVID-19 restrictions in WA on Sunday. WA’s COVID Roadmap sets out the restrictions that will be eased in stages, with Phase 1 in place since 27 April and Phase 2 of relaxations to commence on Monday 18 May. A timeline for relaxation of remaining restrictions is yet to be finalised, however Phase 3 is expected to start approximately four weeks following the beginning of Phase 2. The final phase – including the relaxation of the hard interstate border – will be the final restrictions relaxed, with no firm date for that decision set.
Phase 2 will see indoor and outdoor gathering limits increased to a maximum of 20 people, with outdoor weddings and funerals permitted a maximum of 30 attendees. Restaurants and cafes will be able to recommence dine-in service for a maximum of 20 patrons, so long as they adhere to the four square meter rule. Importantly for sectors such as Retirement Living, community facilities including libraries and community will also be able to reopen, subject to the 20 person limit. This also applies for places of worship, as well as indoor and outdoor exercise classes, which are allowed to have 20 participants as long as shared equipment use is minimise, while some public pools will be able to reopen where it is considered safe to do so.
Regional travel restrictions do remain in place, however regional travel boundaries have been extended to allow some travel between certain regions. For example, people residing in Perth, Peel, the South West, Great Southern and Wheatbelt regions will now be able to travel between these regions for recreational purposes. Travel into the Kimberley region remains tightly restricted to protect vulnerable communities
