Stars shine bright at WA and QLD property awards
Cockburn Gateway Shopping City and Stockland Riverton in Perth and Queensland’s Westfield Chermside are among the shining stars at Property Council state awards in Western Australia and Queensland.
The 2018 WA Property Awards, held on Thursday 20 September, celebrate achievements in the retail and commercial sectors of the state’s property industry.
Cockburn Gateway Shopping City took home the coveted MCS Services Retail Shopping Centre of the Year Award, as well as the Excellence in Marketing and Excellence in Management awards for large retail centres with more than 1 stores.
“Over the past year Cockburn Gateway Shopping City has set the bar for creating community-focused campaigns and continual improvement in management,” says Property Council WA executive director Sandra Brewer.
A collaborative campaign with Breast Friends increased annual fundraising for Breast Cancer Care WA by more than $28,000, while in-centre activations have enhanced the customer experience.
Stockland Riverton’s ArtQuarium won the MCS Services Retail Marketing Campaign of the Year Award and the Excellence in Marketing: Innovation award for a retail development with less than 75 stores. The judges were impressed with Stockland Riverton’s immersive, real-time touch-responsive aquarium.
The ArtQuarium campaign increased traffic and amplified specialty sales by more than 18 per cent, delivering a strong return on investment.
The ArtQuarium “not only delivered the unexpected – but succeeded in creating a customer experience that transformed customer perceptions,” Brewer explains.
Stockland Riverton was also presented with the award for Excellence in Marketing: Community for the Stockland Riverton Youth Art Awards.
Meanwhile, Westfield Chermside was named 2018 Queensland Retail Property of the Year on Friday night.
According to Queensland executive director Chris Mountford, the expansion of Westfield Chermside has “opened up a new outdoor entertainment and leisure precinct reflecting the highest standards of excellence in retail property”.
Westfield Chermside also took home the award for excellence in food retailing.
Kawana Shopping Centre was awarded the Excellence in Marketing Award for sub-regional centres, and the inaugural Retail Innovation Award.
“Kawana Shoppingworld’s cost neutral closed loop Organics Project has seen an impressive 71 per cent of all waste on the site recycled, additionally, the centre has established an impressive waste compactor collection strategy, which has seen a reduction in waste by per cent,” Moutford says.
Grand Central in Toowoomba took out the community engagement award for a partnership with TAFE, and an award for excellence in market for its ‘Spring Festival’ campaign. The centre is the region’s largest shopping centre, doubling in size after a recent $0 million redevelopment.
