Staff Profile – Pallavi Kumar

Born into a family of builders and small-scale developers, I have always been very passionate about seeing design and development ideas come to life. I possess a diverse background and have previously worked in different areas of the larger development industry as a building services adviser, strategic and statutory urban planner, urban designer and an architect in both the public and private sectors.

Having commenced as the Queensland Policy Manager at the Property Council of Australia in June, I am excited for the opportunity to be able to contribute to and continuing the team’s long legacy of influencing public policy and delivering outstanding member services.

Give us a brief rundown on your role at the Property Council

My role focuses on developing and maintaining strong relationships with a broad array of stakeholders within the property industry. My key responsibilities include monitoring and reviewing changes in various legislation and policies that affect the property industry, providing high-level research, representation, advocacy and support to the Executive Director on issues affecting property development. I collaborate with the broader policy team at Property Council and key industry stakeholders to assist in the design and execution ofresearch reports, submissions to governments, letters, and media releases.

What committees do you look after?

  • Planning Committee
  • Infrastructure Committee
  • Residential Committee
  • Social Infrastructure Committee

What are your hopes for the Property industry?

I hope to see a strong property sector with good communication between private sectors and all tiers of government, which is critical to the continued health of the state’s economy.

What do you hope the Olympics will deliver for SEQ?

The lead up to the Olympics marks the start of Brisbane’s golden decade of opportunity, with the eyes of the world now focused on how our city will rise to the occasion. This is our chance to leverage the opportunity that the Games provide in bringing together business, community and government to define who we are and showcase to the world just how great it is to live, work and play in Queensland. The challenge over the next 11 years will be to ensure that this potential is realised before, during and after 2032.
