Science, Information Technology, Innovation, the Arts…and Property
A familiar face to the property industry – Hon. Ian Walker MP, Minister for Science, Information Technology, Innovation and the Arts – presented the Queensland Government’s vision for Brisbane’s cultural precinct at the Property Council’s last Downtown Breakfast for 2014.
Minister Walker applied his experience in the property industry and in-depth knowledge of the audience’s commercial interests to his presentation – discussing the aspects of the draft Cultural Precinct Master Plan that were most relevant to the 1 attendees.
The presentation outlined the strategic thinking that has underpinned the development of the master plan, and the commercial opportunities that may arise throughout the realisation of this vision.
The Minister also discussed the precinct’s unique considerations in terms of connectivity and public space activation, the possible addition of a new cultural site to the precinct and possible heritage constraints.
There was also an opportunity for questions from the floor, during which the Minister discussed his department’s response to the goals of the Queensland Plan and the cultural precinct’s interaction with the Queens Wharf Precinct, and draft Kurilpa Master Plan.
The Property Council would like to thank the Minister for giving his time to present and for his ongoing support of our industry. Special thanks must go to our sponsors Yardi, without whose support this event would not be possible.
