Scholarships provide property opportunities
The Property Education Foundation announcedrecently that it had awarded its two annual scholarships to students Natasha Bowron (formerly Eaton Community College) and Thomas Egger (formerly Aquinas College).
Both studying Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Property Development and Valuation at Curtin University, the scholarship will now cover their tuition fees for the next three years.
Natasha Bowron stated that she had been interested in Curtin because he sister was studying commerce at the university, but it wasn’t until she spoke with J Han Ho, a PEF Committee Member and Curtin Lecturer that she realised how many opportunities property provided.
“My mum has always been in real estate and so I have grown up around property transactions,” Ms Bowron said.
“At the moment I would be interested in commercial development and managing large shopping centres, however I am also keeping my mind open to explore what other pathways may evolve over the course of my studies.”
Thomas Egger, who also was offered the Curtin University Excellence Scholarship, but chose instead to proceed with the PEF scholarship, stated that he was focused on his long term goals.
“I believe PEF is a holistic organisation in that they can also offer me internships and a calendar of networking events and on that basis they were my preferred sponsor,” Mr Egger said.
“I undertook a planning module as part of my year 12 Geography curriculum and really enjoyed the principal and then when PEF came and displayed at Aquinas’ careers expo I had the opportunity to explore my study options further.
“I drive through the Canning Bridge area daily and see all the apartments being built and I want to one day, be managing these types of projects and their delivery.”
Joe Lenzo, Chair of the Property Education Foundation stated that 2018 had been an excellent year with a record number of applications.
“PEF was created with the aim of attracting and retaining strong candidates in the property sector and we have been fulfilling this objective for 25 years,” Mr Lenzo said.
“We continually evolve our calendar of events so that we can target high school students, university students and graduates and encourage them to choose property as their preferred career.”
