Scaling Green Square’s tallest building

Standing at 28 storeys, Mirvac’s OVO has reached completion and more than 600 residents are set to move into one of Australia’s largest urban transformation projects.

More than $8 billion is being injected into the 287-hectare Green Square precinct over the next decade.

Mirvac and Landcom will deliver around 1,6 apartments, 14,000 sqm of retail space and 45,000 sqm of commercial office space at the heart of Green Square.

Landcom CEO John Brogden says the completion of OVO was a great example of a successful urban renewal project that had transformed a former industrial area into an attractive, sought after community.

Mirvac’s CEO and managing director, Susan Lloyd-Hurwitz, says OVO is a testament to Mirvac’s vision to “reimagine urban life”.

“It is an iconic building that transforms the skyline,” Lloyd-Hurwitz adds.

Designed by FJMT in partnership with Mirvac Design, OVO features a distinctive ellipsoid-shaped tower that takes advantage of prime city views.

According to Richard Francis-Jones, FJMT’s design director, the curving arc of the tower not only optimises orientation, access to natural light and views.

“The use of these continuous curves also minimises exposure to wind,” he says.

The building’s façade has one of the most complex colour, detail and manufacturing systems Mirvac has delivered, including around 1,800 panels in 134 shapes and 17 colours.

On the corner of Bourke Street and Ebsworth Street, OVO’s 224 apartments contribute to a total of 302 apartments delivered across three buildings on this site.

Green Square’s high street along Ebsworth Street features a 2,000 sqm Woolworths supermarket and a community space and café called The Social Corner.

Later this year, the City of Sydney will open the civic plaza and library, with parks and an aquatic centre set to open in the coming years.

This follows completion of a $32 million community and cultural precinct with a three-storey creative centre which opened in May 2018.
