Safer Buildings Program deadlines extended
The Queensland Government has announced an extension to the compliance period for the next stages of its Safer Buildings Program, to give property owners and bodies corporate greater time to identify buildings that may have potentially combustible cladding.
A two month extension has been granted to the compliance period for Part 2 and Part 3a, which involve the engagement of professionals to provide assessments.
The Safer Buildings Program is a component of the Building and Other Legislation (Cladding) Amendment Regulation 2018, and is applicable to buildings that are:
- Privately or local government owned
- Class 2 – 9
- Of a type A or B construction, and were
- Built, or had the cladding altered, after 1 January 1994 but before 1 October 2018.
By 29 March 2019, relevant building owners were required to have registered and begun the statutory three stage process through the ‘Safer Buildings‘ website.
The Part 2 deadline will now be 31 July 2019.
The Part 3a deadline will now be 31 October 2019.
Relevant forms outlined in the regulation, and a FAQ section, can be found on the Safer Buildings website.
