Rory Martin named Future Green Leader

Rory Martin named Future Green LeaderRory Martin, national sustainability manager with dwp|suters, was named the Green Building Council of Australia’s 2014 Future Green Leader at the launch last week of the Future Green Leaders network in Sydney.The award, supported and judged by Australand and Interface, aims to recognise ambitious sustainability specialists in the property and construction sector. Martin, the first-ever recipient of the award, heads up dwp|suters’ sustainability team and is responsible for strategic planning, environmental modelling, design review, policy development and marketing. He is a Green Star Accredited Professional and has delivered on projects in North America, Europe, the Middle East and Asia.The judging panel was impressed with the sustainable outcomes that Martin had achieved on his projects, his commitment to buildings that respond to their particular climate, and his ability to show how buildings can be optimised as healthy places for people to work in and live in.Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) chief executive Romilly Madew said, “Rory Martin is an emerging leader who is making big waves in the sustainability space, and his passionate commitment to sustainability and exceptional achievements should inspire other young people to embrace sustainable thinking.”Calling sustainability “an exciting, ever-changing area”, Martin argues that sustainable design is just good design – it’s about finding solutions that “minimise environmental impact and provide greater social benefit for building occupants and users while still meeting economic targets”.An authority on sustainable buildings and communities, the GBCA works to promote Australia’s built environment as one that is healthy, productive and sustainable. As a GBCA Future Green Leader, Martin will be asked to speak at the Green Cities 2015 conference in Melbourne in March next year.
