Rockingham Economic Development LaunchThe City of Rockingham launched its visionary Economic Development Strategy on the evening of Thursday 25 September at the Cruising Yacht Club on Val Street, to raise awareness about Rockingham in the broader property development community, and position this unique coastal location as t­­­h­e place to invest in Perth’s metropolitan area. The audience comprising developers, investors and major stakeholders, listened as City of Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels and CEO Andrew Hammond, together with representatives from South West Group and Access Economics, talked about the City’s vision for the future of Rockingham, and the range of current and emerging investment opportunities. The speakers discussed specific industrial and transport projects in the immediate area, and local projects which are proposed and completed. The City’s Economic Development Strategy will guide redevelopment of the Rockingham foreshore area, and the attraction of medium to high density residential/commercial development in the Rockingham City Centre and Waterfront Village precincts. It capitalises on the City’s unique points of difference, particularly the metropolitan area’s only north facing beach, proximity to the Western Trade Coast and HMAS Stirling Naval Base.A key element of the Strategy is the development of a business case for a business-tourism hotel. It also provides for a more collaborative approach with the development industry with a view to achieving better outcomes on projects which in the past may have been economically marginal.The City of Rockingham’s new Investment Attraction Manager, Peter Melling, will draw on his significant experience in commercial property to implement the objectives of the Strategy.Mayor Sammels said “We are very excited by the potential of Rockingham’s unique property opportunities, and we’re looking forward to a new wave of investment and development as our Economic Development Strategy is realised.”You can download the strategy here.
