Rockhampton duo take out Queensland Manager of the Year

Congratulations to Kevin and Mika Humphreys, the managers of the Eureka Care Rockhampton village for taking out the 2016 Queensland Manager of the Year award.

Kevin and Mika have been co-managers at Eureka Care Rockhampton since early 2015. Their employment with Eureka commenced immediately after Tropical Cyclone Marcia had Rockhampton and central Queensland, causing $7 million in total damage.

The cyclone left the village in poor appearance and residents with low morale, but in little over a year Kevin and Mika restored the village to an immaculate state and, for the first time in the village’s history, achieved 100 per cent occupancy.

Kevin and Mika live on site and are available 24 hours a day; they play an active role in engaging all residents in activities and social interactions, including engaging entertainers to perform in the village, hosting craft classes, organising religious congregations and trips to the local zoo.

Kevin has experience in property and events management and works closely with head office on improving the appearance and operations of the village, while Mika is highly rated within the village for well-presented and delicious home cooked meals.

Kevin and Mika have built strong relationships with a range of community care providers and work with them to help any residents who need additional support.

“In all of our dealings with Mika & Kevin they have continually showed an unsurpassed enthusiasm for our residents’ care, complimented by an incredible drive to make their village stand out from the crowd,” said Eureka Operations Manager Andrew Heyer.

“In their relatively short time with Eureka they are overtly proving to be most suited to the industry.”

Barbara Butler and Dawn McHugh, the daughters of a resident who lived in the village until her passing earlier in the year, said “Kevin and Mika created a vibrant, caring and friendly community for all the residents and our mother thrived living there.

“She made lifelong friendships and Kevin and Mika’s compassion and genuine concern for the residents created a secure family-like environment for her.

“They are a true inspiration and words cannot express our gratitude to them for the care and kindness they showed our mother while she was a resident.”

Kevin and Mika now enter the running for the National Manager of the Year Award, sponsored by Programmed Property Services and to be presented at the National Retirement Living Summit 2016 on 28 and 29 November in Melbourne.
