RMIT takes skills to the next degreeIn the dynamic property industry, professionals can reach their full potential with a postgraduate qualification. With that in mind, RMIT University offers an industry-specific master’s degree tailored to working professionals.RMIT, a leading Australian university in Melbourne, has developed its Master of Property program based on industry-specific content that is practical, technical, theoretical and tailored to the industry’s evolving needs. According to Dr Judith Callanan, program manager for Property & Valuation at RMIT, the Master of Property is aimed at professionals working in the industry who want to further their education or obtain a formal qualification in the property field.”To come into the master’s degree they either need an undergraduate degree or eight years of relevant work experience,” Callanan says. “The course is offered to anyone in the industry looking to upskill or improve their knowledge, or those wanting a change in direction.”What we’re finding is students may be from planning, law, architecture or construction-related fields and they want to learn more about, say, property development or investment.”The program, which is offered by RMIT’s School of Property, Construction and Project Management, can help people move into senior levels of management, according to Callanan. “Corporates are looking for people who have a postgrad education,” she says. The degree can be completed over four years part-time or two years full-time and is designed for people to continue with their careers while studying.”The whole program is tailored around people being able to work,” Callanan says. “Most classes are held in the evening (6pm to 9pm) or on weekends. Many of the students work full-time while studying part-time, or work part-time and study full-time.”The program has been designed with the practicalities of the industry in mind and has been developed in consultation and agreement with industry. “Lecturers either have previous industry experience or are directly from industry – across the whole range, from property investment, development and valuation, to corporate real estate and funds management,” Callanan says.”We have a specialist from whichever area we are teaching. For example, we have a current developer teaching development and we have a senior funds manager teaching corporate finance.”The whole program has been developed with the focus on up-to-date information and industry requirements.”Those who complete the Master of Property can apply for the PhD program at the university.Learn more about RMIT’s Master of Property.
