Revitalisation for Liverpool CBD

Last week was a busy one for Liverpool City Council with the celebration of its 205th birthday and the announcement of plans to revitalise Liverpool’s CBD.

The plan can now be prepared for public exhibition after passing through the Department of Planning and Environment’s Gateway process.

Liverpool has a pivotal location in Southwest Sydney, with the Badgerys Creek airport to drive new jobs into the area. Liverpool City Council applied to change planning rules for the Liverpool city centre to encourage the renewal of the area with new homes, shops and office space. The revitalisation is expected to create 10,000 new residential units and an extra 22,000 jobs in the city centre, boosting the local and regional economy.

Liverpool City Council also wants to rejuvenate the waterfront, upgrade the hospital precinct and create an eat street encouraging more restaurants.

The changes are based upon extensive international research on how to create vibrant cities that really benefit the community and it is hoped that a bright new city centre will be created.
