Review of the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal Act

The State Government has tabled a report on the review of the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal Act 2009, three and a half years after beginning a broad consultation on the legislation’s effectiveness.

The report presents the Government’s conclusions on a range of issues that have been raised over the life of QCAT.

Amendments to the QCAT Act flagged in the review report include a $25,000 limitation on QCAT’s jurisdiction in residential tenancy matters, and to introduce a conciliation process in QCAT to deal with disputes under the Neighbourhood Disputes (Dividing Fences and Trees) Act 2011.

The Government has not indicated a timeframe for when legislative amendments may be developed in response to this review.
